General Information
Clomipramine is a tricyclic antidepressant that is used to treat people with obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. It works by increasing the amount of serotonin in the brain.
Indications for Genetic Testing
Clomipramine side effects include fatigue, dizziness, headache, anxiety, and hypotension. Efficacy and risk is determined by variations in the CYP2D6 gene. Peer-reviewed Consensus on Pharmacogenomic Testing in Psychiatry endorse use of standardized pharmacogenetic reporting for CYP2C19, CYP2D6 and HLA alleles according to CPIC guidelines for psychiatric medications.
Additional Information
Antidepressants increased the risk of suicidal thinking and behavior (suicidality) in short-term studies in children and adolescents with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and other psychiatric disorders
