General Information
Agomelatine is indicated for the treatment of major depressive episodes in adults. It is also used for treating anxiety disorders.
Indications for Genetic Testing
Agomelatine is primarily metabolized by the CYP1A2 enzyme and, to a lesser extent, by CYP2C9. Genetic variations in these genes, as well as other medications and environmental factors, including smoking, can affect agomelatine metabolism, clinical response and the risk of side effects.
Additional Information
Agomelatine is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to the active substance or to any of the excipients and in patients with hepatic impairment or transaminases exceeding 3 X upper limit of normal. Avoid concomitant use of potent CYP1A2 inhibitors (e.g. fluvoxamine, ciprofloxacin).
