General Information
Chlorpromazine is an antipsychotic medication used to treat psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. Other uses include the treatment of bipolar disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, nausea and vomiting, and anxiety.
Indications for Genetic Testing
Chlorpromazine is partially metabolized by the CYP1A2 enzyme, variations in which can affect clinical efficacy and risk of side effects. Chlorpromazine is also a major substrate of CYP2D6.
Additional Information
Increased mortality in Elderly Patients with Dementia-Related Psychosis. Tardive dyskinesia may develop in patients treated with antipsychotic drugs. Prevalence of the syndrome appears to be highest among the elderly, especially elderly women.
